i spent the greater half of my last year working on this debut project ‘Simple Things,’ but really, it was a lifetime in the making.
the creative process brings a lot out of you. a lot of good. a lot of bad, when you have it in you. the truth comes out. and with time, you have a choice on how to construct and sell that truth to an audience greater than the homies, roommates, and family who’ll support you even if it’s shit.
everything is a gamble, every song is a social experiment. no one’s giving out awards for doing what any other wannabe rockstar can do in their bedroom/basement/closet with a sixty-dollar mic and some bootlegged software.
what i’m trying to say is, i don’t take any of this for granted: the write-ups from blogs we’ve spammed for six months, the tweets from strangers who say it’s the best they’ve heard all year, the facebook posts from old friends who tout our relationship as if i’m already TMZ-famous (and they are too, by association)…
it’s all just mad appreciated. nothing but love.
if it were up to me, this might be the end. i’d wipe my hands with a ‘job-well-done’ satisfaction, and go back to the relative sweet stability of bachelor’s degrees, bi-weekly paychecks, and clear paths to traditional success. it’d be so much easier…
but the truth is, the universe has other plans. we’re already well into work on the next project, videos for the singles, and other shiny new opportunities. this is the time, this is the journey God’s laid out for me. and you were meant to be here, too.
