As she prepares her debut album, Marz Lovejoy has released the music video for her latest track, “Discouraged.”
The track was produced by Grammy Award winner Om’Mas Keith (Frank Ocean, Odd Future, Sa-Ra) and newcomer Minnesota’s own Mike Swoop.
The video, directed by GRVTY, was shot in Minneapolis and follows Marz through her feelings about discouragement. Marz was born and raised in Minneapolis and attended high school in California. The music video for “Discouraged” features a cameo by local folk legend Cornbread Harris.
Most recently , Marz has been busy working with West Coast producers, Hippie Sabotage and Om’Mas Keith, who has signed-on to executive produce her forthcoming debut album, elePhant Soundz. This year she was the first recording artist since ASAP Rocky to be selected by the uber popular streetwear company Black Scale to represent the brand in its Fall 2013 look book.
Marz is also coming off a busy year in Hollywood. She recently finished filming for director John Stockwell and producer Gordon Bijelonic’s forthcoming film, Kid Cannabis. In 2012, Marz made her cinematic debut in Common’s LUV which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2010, at the age of 19 Marz released her debut EP This Little Light Of Mine to critical acclaim; OkayPlayer.com described the EP as “an excellent debut…[Marz] has the ability to craft catchy hooks to make some noise in the mainstream crowd, and she has the lyrical prowess to hang with the best of the underground.” She has since performed with and/or shared the stage with Odd Future, Eykah Badu, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y, Wu-Tang Clan, Yelawolf, and more.
Marz Lovejoy’s debut album, elePhant Soundz will be released in 2014.
