    Skyzoo x Torae (aka The Barrel Brothers) “The Get Up” | @Skyzoo @Torae


    Last year at A3C, Skyzoo mentioned that a Barrel Brothers project was going to be dropping in 2013, and here is the first track from said project. Read more below, and if you want to see when Sky first announced this, check our montage video from last year.

    The wait will soon be over, as anticipation builds for the release of the long awaiting documentary film, DEMOS: An Independent Artist’s Guide To Success. Set for an online release of May 22nd, DEMOS will fuel independent artists with the knowlege needed to catipult their careers to the next level.

    Accompanying DEMOS (the film) will be DEMOS (the soundtrack), featuring all new music by artists such as Rapper Big Pooh, Planet Asia, Tanya Morgan, King Mez, Truck North, Supastition and many more.

    The first single comes from Brooklyn’s own Skyzoo & Torae AKA The Barrel Brothers with their M31RK & Peter Haslanger produced / !llmind mixed track “The Get Up”.

    J Dilla, what more can I say about the man that hasn’t been said already. He’s one of the greatest. When I started messing with beat making in the late 90’s, he was the one producer I studied. I still study him, to this day. During a time period of about 5 years, I was in “beat-making-boot-camp”, or “5 beats a day for 3 summers” as Kanye would say. I trained my ear and was inspired by Dilla the whole time. This is a collection of 4 beats (out of thousands) that I made during that time period. I hope you enjoy! Rest in power J Dilla.     Skyzoo is back at it with his brand new Theo vs J.J. (Dreams vs Reality) mixtape. I’ve yet to give it a listen, but he’s saying it’s some of his best work. That’s enough for me. The production was handled by !llmind, Jahlil Beats, Tha S Ence, Thelonious Martin, Hasan Insane, Praise, 14KT, and Mel & D, and include features from Torae and Open.     “With this project, I wanted it to be a bridge between “The Great Debater” and “A Dream Deferred”. This mixtape literally picks up where “The Great Debater” left off and leads you directly into “A Dream Deferred”. The tape is split into 2 parts, Theo Huxtable and JJ Evans. The first half of the tape has me rhyming as if I were Theo, with the world from his point of view. Being well off, having to live up to a family’s expectations due to their success, etc. The second half is from JJ’s view, with the sound being slightly more aggressive and the stories built with an “in need of something” attitude. The tape is the idea of the vast contrasts of a life that my people and I dreamed of and aspired to as kids (Theo) versus a life that was more of our reality (J.J). This one is for US.
