The Black Opera actually show themselves a bit for their latest visual Balcony from Libretto: of King Legend that dropped today. The project is 16 tracks with featured artists on the album such as Mayer Hawthorne, Boog Brown, Lalibella, and Melody Betts, and production form Astronote, 14KT, and Oddisee. This is definitely one I suggest checking out. Does this mean that we can reveal who they are? I’ll hold my tongue for now.

Its always good to hear something new from The Black Opera. This shit is hard! The album Libretto: Of King Legend, drops on 10/30/12 and you pre-order on iTunes, or UGHH for physical copies.
I didn’t know this project was happening, or dropping, but here’s a nice little vocal EP from producer 14KT that features the vocal stylings of Skyzoo, Oddisee, The Black Opera, and Olivier Daysoul. Check it. Oh, and grab the instrumental version here if you haven’t.
Ypsilanti’s golden child, 14KT, makes the progression from instrumentals to full-fledged songs on the EP A Friendly (Vocal) Game of KT. The original project was rife with earth quaking bass lines, precise drums and heavenly synths. The vocal version pairs select beats with equally select MC’s to tease a great instrumental into a classic song.
MMG all-star Oddisee and his soul singin’ comrade Olivier Daysoul lace the murderous drums and guitar sample of “One 4 Black,” turning it into “High Horse.” New York rhyme wizard Skyzoo and the amorphous The Black Opera are also on board to lend their vocal expertise. Though the short project is stacked with indie rap heavyweights, one of the brightest spots on the album is when KT picks up the mic for the all-new “AsWeContinue.” The introspective track finds KT pouring his soul out in rhyme, opening up about a tumultuous 2011 that left our shining star depressed and the faith that led him out of that.
A producer’s natural evolution is to work with vocalist and A Friendly (Vocal) Game of KT is Kendall Tucker’s next step in his progression as a great producer of hip-hop music. Don’t sleep on this heat courtesy of Mello Music Group!

Read more »The independent collective, comprised of intellectuals, musicians, creators, artists and agents known as The Black Opera launched its mission last year armed with audio and video demonstrations. To our surprise, this secret society of creatives extended an honorable invitation to US. After listening intensely for the past year, Mello Music Group decided to join The Black Opera – signing them to a multi-album deal and issuing a physical edition of “EnterMission.” August 28th on CD and September 25th on vinyl to add to the archives. The Black Opera issued the following statement about the signing:
“The Black Opera is not solely a musical outfit, music is only one aspect that represents THE BLACK OP: ERA. But, when it was time for The Black Opera to get their Musical Movement to ears of the future, they mapped out a plan. They knew that the Third and Final Endstallment of The Black Op Era: I; “Libretto: Of King Legend”, would be the Beginning of something special. Special enough to enlist a company worthy of joining forces with, that company is Mello Music Group.
Both sides decided to join forces in order to advance to their own vision and to assist the vision of their partner. This partnership stems from mutual admiration and appreciation of what each had done on their own. This marks the Beginning of a New Era for both Movements, as ONE.
