The Black Opera “Libretto: of King Legend” Release & “Balcony” Video | @TheBlackOpera

The Black Opera actually show themselves a bit for their latest visual Balcony from Libretto: of King Legend that dropped today. The project is 16 tracks with featured artists on the album such as Mayer Hawthorne, Boog Brown, Lalibella, and Melody Betts, and production form Astronote, 14KT, and Oddisee. This is definitely one I suggest checking out. Does this mean that we can reveal who they are? I’ll hold my tongue for now.

14KT “A Friendly (Vocal) Game of KT” Release | @14KT

I didn’t know this project was happening, or dropping, but here’s a nice little vocal EP from producer 14KT that features the vocal stylings of Skyzoo, Oddisee, The Black Opera, and Olivier Daysoul. Check it. Oh, and grab the instrumental version here if you haven’t.

Ypsilanti’s golden child, 14KT, makes the progression from instrumentals to full-fledged songs on the EP A Friendly (Vocal) Game of KT. The original project was rife with earth quaking bass lines, precise drums and heavenly synths. The vocal version pairs select beats with equally select MC’s to tease a great instrumental into a classic song.

MMG all-star Oddisee and his soul singin’ comrade Olivier Daysoul lace the murderous drums and guitar sample of “One 4 Black,” turning it into “High Horse.” New York rhyme wizard Skyzoo and the amorphous The Black Opera are also on board to lend their vocal expertise. Though the short project is stacked with indie rap heavyweights, one of the brightest spots on the album is when KT picks up the mic for the all-new “AsWeContinue.” The introspective track finds KT pouring his soul out in rhyme, opening up about a tumultuous 2011 that left our shining star depressed and the faith that led him out of that.

A producer’s natural evolution is to work with vocalist and A Friendly (Vocal) Game of KT is Kendall Tucker’s next step in his progression as a great producer of hip-hop music. Don’t sleep on this heat courtesy of Mello Music Group!

Skyzoo “Theo vs J.J. (Dreams vs Reality)” Release | @Skyzoo

Skyzoo is back at it with his brand new Theo vs J.J. (Dreams vs Reality) mixtape. I’ve yet to give it a listen, but he’s saying it’s some of his best work. That’s enough for me. The production was handled by !llmind, Jahlil Beats, Tha S Ence, Thelonious Martin, Hasan Insane, Praise, 14KT, and Mel & D, and include features from Torae and Open. “With this project, I wanted it to be a bridge between “The Great Debater” and “A Dream Deferred”. This mixtape literally picks up where “The Great Debater” left off and leads you directly into “A Dream Deferred”. The tape is split into 2 parts, Theo Huxtable and JJ Evans. The first half of the tape has me rhyming as if I were Theo, with the world from his point of view. Being well off, having to live up to a family’s expectations due to their success, etc. The second half is from JJ’s view, with the sound being slightly more aggressive and the stories built with an “in need of something” attitude. The tape is the idea of the vast contrasts of a life that my people and I dreamed of and aspired to as kids (Theo) versus a life that was more of our reality (J.J). This one is for US. 14KT ft. Oddisee & Olivier Daysoul “High Horse” | @14KT @Oddisee @OLIVIERDAYSOUL

Oddisee and singer Olivier Daysoul, as well as producer 14KT himself on the third verse, add some new vocals over a track from 14KT′s A Friendly Game of KT instrumental project. This song will be on an upcoming release by 14KT.

After releasing the instrumental project “A Friendly Game of KT”, we decided instead of just letting the fans have all the fun rhyming over KT’s lush soundscapes we’d let some of our MMG affiliates take the tracks for a test spin. We ended up creating an entire EP of vocal versions including a special track in which KT himself delivers the rhymes.

This is the first creation from the upcoming 4 track EP, a song originally titled “One 4 Black”, which rhyming adept Oddisee re-envisioned with a little help on the hook from the mellifluous Olivier Daysoul. The message is as straightforward as the new title “High Horse”.

14KT “Blessed” Video | @14KT

This visual is off of 14KT‘s Friendly Game of KT that dropped late last year.

‘Blessed’ was basically all shot on a random Sunday. Andy (film director) and I just grabbed the camera and press record. Most of the video wasn’t planned. I wanted to give everyone a mini-photo album of candid “normal” moments that I get to experience daily. As “normal” as these things may look, many people don’t get the opportunity to experience what many may consider a “normal” life. Hence the title, ‘Blessed.’ – 14KT
