BDTB Interview w/ Grey Granite about “Rich In The Blood” | @GreyGranite

June 1st has come and gone, and with the coming of the new month also comes the newest project from Naptown’s Grey Granite. Being the sponsor for the project, I got to sit down with the TrillBeatNik to discuss his new project, his art, and his ideas around keeping himself relevant as an artist.

Rich in the Blood is what Grey considers to be his first real album. He said, “I always felt like working with one producer kind of gives you a little of both of us, but working with the amount that did for RITB? It really lets you see me.” Grey really breaks loose on this album and allows the listener to see how he sees the world, and it is seriously a dope view.

I asked Grey about how he came up with the title for the album. “It just came to me, real talk. I went straight to Google and nothing came up and I was damn, it was sounds so sweet to the tongue.” I can’t deny that there is something about that title that really lends itself to something epic, and after listening you might just have to agree that it’s just that.

Grey kills it on what is his favorite track, “TGS (True G Shit)”, as well as another dope song that we discussed which happens to be the intro to the album, “Game of the Greats”. This track discusses the book, Eye in the Shield, which is book one in the great story that will be Grey’s Rich in the Blood. It is a very interesting concept, and something that really helps set it apart from many projects being released these days.

Creating this type of hype behind an album will really help keep the artist stay relevant because it leaves the listener chomping at the bit to hear more of the tale; if you do it as well as Grey has with this project. Being relevant seems to be a hot topic right now in the hip hop world because nobody wants to be that flash in the pan artist, and they all want to make their stake in the hip hop world as it seemingly becomes easier to do. Why do you think Kanye always acts like an asshole? I digress, Grey has got some big plans in store as well to help claim his time in the industry, and make this album something hotter than something you listen to for a week.

As you may have now seen, some of those plans include the art for the album, that is rich in photography, and owes Trinidad James’ album cover for All Gold Everything as the inspiration. Grey believes that the artwork for an album says a lot about what the project is about and if it will be wack or not, so he has got to go 100 for the whole album. That includes the artwork attached. He also added that, “the RITB live show is amazing; you’re getting the album on stage.”

Grey will be keeping our attention for a while, keeping us busy with watching his new music videos, getting us to shows, and allowing us to appreciate some great art. He will be doing it all across social networks where he keeps us entertained at all hours of day. So turn off your fucking radio and go pick up Rich in the Blood.
