Countdown To Straight Outta Compton: Ice Cube
Tensions formed between the group and Ice Cube due to contracts and pay, so Cube went solo. In so, his first album was released in 1990 with production by The Bomb Squad. Cube went on record to say that he wanted Dre to produce the album, and Dre wanted to as well, but contractually it wasn’t able to happen.

This was the start of the more political and conscious side of Cube to add to the gangster aesthetic. He eventually would release an N.W.A. diss on “Kill At Will” released the same year. That wouldn’t be the last time he went at the group. “No Vaseline” served as the end all to that battle featured on Cube’s third solo album, Death Certificate.
