Here’s a joint that 14KT let go on his Soundcloud page a few days ago from his old group, Athletic Mic League.

The Athletic Mic League was a collective of six emcees that came together while still attending high school in Ann Arbor, MI. Known then as the Anonymous Clique, Buff1, 14KT, Grand Champ, Texture, Tres Styles and Vital joined forces with DJ Haircut (aka Mayer Hawthorne) to form the Athletic Mic League. Disbanding a few years back, their latest project Jungle Gym Jungle is available on iTunes. Below is an unreleased video from back in 2004. Enjoy.

I’ve had this sitting in my email box marked as “read” for about a week or so, and am finally getting around to getting it to you. You can grab it by heading over to this site and putting down your email address. Check a preview I’ve uploaded below, and if you don’t know, here’s a little about Dennis Coffey:
br>
Dennis Coffey’s music has represented the heartbeat of Detroit since the ‘60s, running a thread through the city’s soul, funk and disco classics and, later, through hip hop thanks to a clutch of seminal Coffey breaks. The Detroit connection loomed large on Coffey’s latest self-titled album with a handful of classic Motor City songs and guest appearances from local heroes Mayer Hawthorne, Mick Collins (The Dirtbombs) and more. Coffey and Strut now take the link a step further, enlisting a vibrant array of talent from the city’s rich electronic and hip hop community for a remix collection of tracks from the album. We assembled some of the most talented artists from the Detroit area, all influenced by Coffey’s work, for a collection of reinterpretations and remixes of his new tracks. Just some more top quality Motor City funk for your listening enjoyment.

I was deciding whether I was going to leak these songs at different times or not, and just decided to give you both of them at once. If you’re not familiar with Astronote, you should be. These two songs feature Buff1 and Magestik Legend.
br>
Hailing from Paris, France, producer Astronote is quickly becoming one of the most respected new producers in Hip-Hop. The newest member of the A-Side Worldwide roster, Astronote is easily one of the most well rounded producers we’ve come across, with the ability to turn out top notch Hip-Hop, R&B, Funk, Soul & Pop tracks with or without samples. Having already built a resume that includes working with notable artists such as Talib Kweli, Buff1, Invincible, Donwill of Tanya Morgan, Joell Ortiz, Guilty Simpson and Mayer Hawthorne, Astronote is poised to take his own place in the game.

Here’s the first official single from Rubyhornet’s Closed Sessions series. You can buy this song on iTunes right now. Track produced by DJ Babu

“But you never would’ve guessed that this was done in Texas…”
The line above from Buff1 catches me every time, and sums up so much about Closed Sessions: ATX (in-stores 3.15.11). That’s why this song is called “Theme Music” and it is the first official single from the album. Similar to “The Roadhouse”, which we leaked last week, “Theme Music” is produced by DJ Babu of The Beat Junkie’s/Dilated Peoples and features three emcees from different states murdering every bar. The song is a statement on the moment in which it was recorded as Fashawn kicks it off by kicking out the weak before advising “you should get out of your seats, it’s about to go down.” The former XXL Freshmen is followed up by Buff1 straight from Ann Arbor, Michigan, while Chicago’s Scheme finishes off the track.
