    Chief “Shadows: Chapter 3″ Release

Here’s a dope 8-track beat-tape from producer Chief that dropped in late September. Give this a listen below. Dopeness.

Dynamic beatmaker Chief is back with “Shadows Collision”, a collection of instrumental tracks showcasing the sound signature he’s known for, and that new record proves once more why Chief is a key player in bridging the gap between hip-hop and electronic.

“Shadows Collision” consists of instrumental tracks recorded over the past year, and musically follows the path set by Chief’s much acclaimed album “Drone Beats & Electric Waves” released in early 2011.

Chief is well known for both his solo work and for producing the cream of the cream of both confirmed and upcoming rappers/singers such as Moka Only, Blu, Co$$, John Robinson, Kissey Asplund, Aloe Blacc, Dynas, Les Nubians, Just Brea, Sene, or Abstract Rude to name but a few.

“Shadows Collision” is a versatile album where Chief manages to blend hip-hop and electronic music, taking the best of both worlds and twisting it all into his very own sound. “Shadows Collision” features new instrumental tracks as well as collaborations with Ghostape, Deheb or Flex Fab, and a few goodies available for the first time on vinyl.

Combining sonic subtlety, electric soundscapes, hip-hop beats and soulful sound design into propulsive beat productions, “Shadows Collision” amounts to an album that stands out in a crowded climate.

Do The Dilla 2012 – A Tribute to the Drum-Master (Release)

Released yesterday, this is a tribute full of beats and remixes by a couple handfuls of talented producers. Really dope.

A love project in memory of James Dewitt Yancey, better known under the name Jaydee or J-Dilla. An idea of Do The Right Print, Food for ya Soul & Feelin’ Music, bringing different beatmakers from around the world to perpetuate J-Dilla’s art, in order to give to the audience a new vision of his creations…

    —————-

James Dewitt Yancey, better known under the name Jaydee or J-Dilla left us on february 10th 2006 at the age of 33. This american producer and composer has worked with a lot of artists such as Busta Rhymes, Common, Slum Village, A Tribe called Quest or Madlib. Through his creation, he in- fluenced many artists and musicians across the world which is not limited to the hip hop scene. Recognize by his peers for the imprint he has left in the musical landscape, this avant-garde is today considered like being simply a genius, a virtuoso, a precursor.

For the 6th year anniversary of his death, the Food for ya Soul collective (soundcloud.com/foodforyasoul), the silkscreen print Do the Right Print studio (dotherightprint.ch) & the label Feelin Music (feelinmusic.ch) came together around a common project in memory of J-Dilla. The Do The Dilla concept is born.
The idea is to bring together different artists to work and perpetuate J-Dilla’s art in order to give the audience a new visions of Dilla’s creations. A selection of beatmakers from across the world, as well as FFYS, DTRP & Feelin Music members worked for free to create a record containing Jaydee’s classics remixed.
The album is in line (and will be given away to the audience) with a live event called «Do The Dilla» which will take place on february 11th 2012 at Le Romandie in Lausanne with guests like Brussels own DJ Lefto from the famous jazz label Blue Note, Fatoosan from the Supafly collective along with Chief, founder of Feelin’ Music and of course the Helvetico- Belgian group Food for ya Soul in full force with Ngoc Lan, DJ Chikano, Mr Comb & Boo. Like last year, the event will be hosted by Parisian Gyver Hypman.

    Moka Only x Chief “Crickets” | @MOKA_ONLY

Moka Only and the Swiss producer Chief have teamed up to do a project entitled Crickets. The song below is a free download of the title song, Crickets, and if you head over to bandcamp you can hear an additional preview. The entire project will be out 11/8/11 on Feelin’ Music, and is now available as pre-order at bandcamp.

Canadian rapper/producer Moka Only teams up with Swiss beatmaker Chief for the finest indie hip-hop album you might hear this year, “Crickets”. The album showcases the talent of two very gifted artists, pushing the boundaries of hip-hop while preserving its backbone. The album showcases Moka Only’s unique raps fused with Chief’s sound signature of merging straight hip-hop elements with forward-thinking production.

Moka Only and Chief first collaborated in 2008 on the tracks “Do Work” and “Felt before”, and soon after Moka Only released his album “Lowdown Suite 2 – The Box” on Chief’s label Feelin’ music.
A good connection and the fact that each artist seemed to get the best out of the other convinced Moka Only and Chief to deepen the collaboration and have this natural flow of united work result in a full-length album, so in 2010 they started getting busy with this.
The result is “Crickets”, a smashing collision between two creative minds with strong backgrounds in hip-hop which coupled with borderless imagination bring you more than “just another hip-hop album”.

The album confirms the genuinely productive union of Moka Only and Chief’s abilities, it is the finely crafted and accomplished result of two artists naturally complementing each other’s ideas.

From moody ambiences, bewitching loops and hybrid beats to sophisticated soulful beats or mesmerizing urban soundscapes, “Crickets” exhibits a rich pallet of atmospheres and attitudes with a smart and creative approach.

Blending deft production with unique raps, “Crickets” truly is a refreshing hip-hop exploit from two driving forces in the hip-hop scene.
