J Dilla – “Motor City” (Release)

J Dilla needs no introduction. The late Detroit producer was an absolute legend, extremely innovative, and went on to inspire a whole new generation of beat makers that have learned from his sound. Motor City is the latest posthumous release from the prolific producer, hand-selected and sequenced by Dilla’s mother, Maureen Ma Dukes Yancey. The presentation of the album is intended to be a letter from Ma Dukes to her son. Fans of Dilla will recognize some of the material included here from the famous unreleased J Dilla beat-tapes. While some of this material has been floating around in its raw form, this is the first time these tracks have been heard as a fully polished and mastered product. The mastering sounds great, and lets these beats shine brighter than ever before. For those hungry for unheard Dilla, there are a number of fire joints here that I don’t believe I have heard before. Some heads get cynical about new J Dilla releases, but I’m always happy to have more music from the man! R. I. P.

Also, check out this blend from J Rocc which features verses from Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes.

Motor City is available digitally via Apple Music, iTunes, and Spotify. You can also cop as a CD, LP, or in a Deluxe bundle complete with CD, LP, T-Shirt, Cassette Tape (with alternate mix by J Rocc), Slipmat, and 2 Flexis (with J Rocc blends).
