Robert Glasper Experiment ft. Common & Patrick Stump “I Stand Alone” | @robertglasper @common

The Robert Glasper Experiment‘s upcoming Black Radio 2 is dropping in late October, and you can preorder that project right now on iTunes. With that news also comes this track that features Common and Patrick Stump. Give this track a bump and preorder that 16-track project if you know what’s good for ya.

The Robert Glasper Experiment contemplates solitude in the piano-heavy “I Stand Alone,” featuring Common and Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump. On the track, Glasper maintains his tradition of fusing jazz, hip-hop and R&B.

For the song’s production, Glasper was eager to combine some of his friends’ vocals. “I’ve known Common for years; we lived a few blocks away from each other in Brooklyn, and he’s one of my favorite MCs, so I had to ask him to rep on this song,” Glasper tells Rolling Stone. “He and Patrick are both from Chicago and Patrick is a friend of mine as well.”

The song appears on Black Radio 2, the follow-up to 2012’s Black Radio, and is an exploration of the contemporary state of music, individuality and the artist’s role within both.

“The song speaks to being your own person, never conforming to anything that’s not you, and to being the best at what you do!” says Glasper.

“I Stand Alone” will be featured on Black Radio 2, out on October 29th and available for pre-order on iTunes.
